Large labia can show in tight clothing, like yoga pants or bathing suits (the infamous “camel toe”). Additionally, this extra tissue can make certain physical activities like bike riding or sexual intercourse uncomfortable.
Surgical labiaplasty is performed by trimming the excess tissue on each labium. This can be done using a trim technique (where tissue is excised along the rim of the labium) or a wedge technique (where a wedge-shaped piece of tissue is removed from each labium, but the remaining edge remains intact).
Some patients may benefit from non-surgical labiaplasty, which can use radio-frequency treatments to improve the look and size of the labia.

Why Should You Consider Combining These Procedures?
While some women are only interested in one vaginal rejuvenation technique, many women have multiple concerns. These treatments can often be performed simultaneously, allowing for a single surgery and recovery period.

Is There a Recovery Period After Labiaplasty and Clitoral Hood Reduction?
Because both labiaplasty and clitoral hood reduction procedures require surgery, there will be some associated downtime accompanied by bruising and swelling.
These surgeries are performed under anesthesia, and you will not feel any discomfort during the procedure itself; however, you can expect to develop some discomfort and pain once the anesthesia wears off. This can last a few days, and Dr. Kent will prescribe pain medication if necessary. Some patients do fine with over-the-counter pain medication like TYLENOL®.
It is important that you avoid strenuous exercise and penetrative sex for at least six weeks. You will also want to avoid wearing tampons.
