Perineoplasty

What is Perineoplasty?

Perineoplasty is a surgical procedure where the posterior muscles of the vagina are tightened.

This procedure can be done on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia.

Who is a candidate for Perineoplasty?

Women who feel their vaginal opening is too wide or not tight enough often seek this procedure. They are often women who have had one or more children. Sometimes the vaginal opening (or introitus) is stretched from childbirth or an episiotomy, but ultimately, the muscles that contract the vaginal muscles on the outside, no longer work properly. Sometimes these women have less feeling during sexual intercourse.

Is there another name for Perineoplasty?

Yes. Some people simply call it vaginal tightening. Vaginal rejuvenation includes this procedure but a full vaginal rejuvenation involves tightening the course of the entire vaginal and involves the anterior and posterior walls of the vagina. Perineoplasty is the tightening of the muscles at the opening. It is a much simpler procedure but often results in just as much satisfaction in terms of feeling your vagina is tight as the more complicated procedure.

Can Perineoplasty Be Performed without surgery?

Yes. Some women want a temporary fix or just a quick fix, and this can be done using fillers in the area.

Does it hurt?

A Perineoplasty can be painful for the first week because the muscles feel really tight, and also because this is an area you sit on. However, with icing and proper care, the discomfort can resolve in about 7 – 10 days to a point that you can resume some normal activities.

How long does it take the Perineoplasty to heal?

It will take a full six weeks for the Perineoplasty to heal and for you to go back to your normal activities.

Can Perineoplasty be done as an outpatient?

Yes, we perform this surgery on an outpatient basis. Patients go home shortly after the procedure is completed. It can be performed with local anesthesia and some oral medications.

How soon can I have sex after Perineoplasty?

You can resume sexual activity 6 weeks after the procedure is performed.

Will sex feel better after Perineoplasty?

Yes. This is one of the main reasons patients seek this repair. Women are able to feel their partners better and enjoy sex better themselves after they have this procedure.

How much does this procedure cost?

Usually, the cost is around $2500 – $4500, depending on how complicated the repair is.
